Soap Phase Preparation Procedure
Step 1 – Charge Water
Add required water volume to soap tank or lab reactor.
Step 2 – Add Emulsifen GPRO
Add calculated dosage under agitation.
Step 3 – Measure pH
Check pH of diluted soap solution.
Step 4 – Adjust pH if Necessary
Adjust with 50% NaOH solution until soap phase reaches:
Target pH: 12.5 – 13.5
Step 5 – Homogenize
Mix for 10–15 minutes until fully homogeneous.
-
Why pH Control Is Critical
Although Emulsifen GPRO is supplied pre-saponified, dilution may reduce alkalinity and require correction.
Maintaining proper pH ensures:
- Full resin activation
- Better emulsification efficiency
- Improved emulsion stability
- Compensation for bitumen variability
- Reduced risk of premature breaking
-
Performance with Variable Bitumen Sources
As refinery feedstock and crude sourcing continue to change, many producers are seeing increased variability in bitumen behavior.
Typical impacts include:
- Higher instability risk
- Increased sieve residue
- More process adjustments
- Less predictable emulsion performance
Emulsifen GPRO helps mitigate these issues through:
- Broad formulation tolerance
- Reliable colloidal stability
- Consistent production performance
-
Application Positioning
Best Use Cases
| Application | Suitability |
| General Stable Emulsions | Excellent |
| Road Binders | Very Good |
