Soap Phase Preparation Procedure
Step 1 – Charge Water
Add required water volume to soap tank or lab reactor.
Step 2 – Add Emulsifen G10000
Add calculated dosage under agitation.
Step 3 – Measure pH
Check pH of diluted soap solution.
Step 4 – Adjust pH if Necessary
Adjust with 50% NaOH solution until soap phase reaches:
Target pH: 12.5 – 13.5
Step 5 – Homogenize
Mix for 10–15 minutes until fully homogeneous.
-
Why pH Control Is Critical
Although Emulsifen G10000 is supplied pre-saponified, pH correction may still be required after dilution.
Maintaining proper alkalinity ensures:
- Full resin activation
- Improved emulsification efficiency
- Better emulsion stability
- Compensation for bitumen acidity variation
- Reduced risk of premature breaking
-
Performance with Hard Penetration Bitumen
As harder bitumen grades become more common, emulsification becomes increasingly difficult due to:
- Higher viscosity
- Reduced dispersion efficiency
- Greater instability risk
Emulsifen G10000 is specifically recommended for these systems due to:
- Strong emulsification capability
- High adhesion contribution
- Good tolerance to variable bitumen chemistry
-
Application Positioning
Best Use Cases
| Application | Suitability |
| Slurry Seal | Excellent |
| Tack Coat | Excellent |
| Hard Pen Bitumen | Excellent |
