Description
CarboAsphalt is a thick, viscous solution of a compound resin dissolved in water. It is derived from the synthesis of naturally occurring polyphenol resins saponified with natural resin acids, which are specially processed resulting in a product with excellent properties as an anionic bitumen emulsifier.
Advantages as a bitumen emulsifier
- Neutralization of the resin is not required;
- Better resistance to sulfate and chloride;
- Excellent solubility in water;
- Easier handling for emulsion, since it can be diluted without necessarily being heated.
Natural Resin Performance Technology for Durability-Driven Asphalt Emulsions
-
Product Overview
CarboAsphalt is a liquid anionic asphalt emulsion technology based on Polytrade’s modified natural resin platform enhanced with lignin, developed for asphalt emulsions requiring improved durability, enhanced film performance and greater long-term field reliability.
Unlike conventional emulsifiers focused primarily on stabilization, CarboAsphalt contributes directly to the performance of the asphalt residue, making it ideal for applications where durability and film integrity are critical.
-

-
Soap Phase Preparation Procedure
Step 1 – Charge Water
Add required water volume to soap tank or lab reactor.
Step 2 – Add CarboAsphalt
Add calculated dosage under agitation.
Step 3 – Measure pH
Check pH of diluted soap solution.
Step 4 – Adjust pH if Necessary
Adjust with 50% NaOH solution until soap phase reaches:
Target pH: 12.5 – 13.5
Step 5 – Homogenize
Mix for 10–15 minutes until fully homogeneous.
-
Why pH Control Is Critical
Although CarboAsphalt is supplied pre-saponified, dilution may reduce alkalinity and require correction.
Maintaining proper pH ensures:
- Full resin activation
- Proper lignin/resin dispersion
- Improved emulsification efficiency
- Enhanced formulation stability
- Reduced risk of instability or premature breaking
-
Performance with Difficult Bitumen
As bitumen quality becomes more variable, some formulations require additional robustness beyond conventional emulsification.
CarboAsphalt can provide added support in systems challenged by:
- Difficult-to-emulsify bitumen
- Poor residue cohesion
- Weak long-term performance
- Moisture sensitivity
-
Application Positioning
